Effect of moxibustion at Du meridian and scalp points on cognitive function,self-care ability and oxidative stress in patients with vascular dementia
Objective To study the effect of moxibustion at Du meridian and scalp points on cognitive function,self-care ability and oxidative stress in patients with vascular dementia(VD).Methods Totally 82 VD patients admitted to Neurology Department of Baoding No.2 Central Hospital from January 2021 to January 2022 were randomly assigned into control group(n=41)and treatment group(n=41).All patients were managed by routine medicine, routine health education, disease monitoring, medication instruction, rehabilitative exercise, and those in treatment group were additionally treated with moxibustion at Du meridian and scalp points.Treated for 4 weeks, the aim was to compare traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)syndrome scores,Mini-Mental State Examination(MMSE)score, activities of daily living(ADL)scale, malondialdehyde(MDA),superoxide dismutase(SOD),glutathione peroxidase(GSH-Px),interleukin6(IL-6),tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α),C-reactive protein(CRP).Results After treatment,TCM symptom scores in both groups were significantly decreased(P<0.05),which decreased notably in the treatment group compared with the control group(P<0.05).MMSE and ADL scores in both groups were significantly increased(P<0.05),which were significantly increased in the treatment group relevant to the control group(P<0.05).MDA,IL-6,TNF-α,CRP in both groups were significantly decreased(P<0.05),which were significantly decreased in the treatment group than in the control group(P<0.05).SOD and GSH-Px levels in both groups were significantly increased(P<0.05),the increase in the treatment group was more common than the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion For VD patients, the moxibustion at Du meridian and scalp points can improve cognitive function,self-care ability and oxidative stress status.
