Effect of moxibustion therapy combined with auricular point sticking in treating diabetic constipation
Objective To explore the effect of moxibustion therapy combined with auricular point sticking in treating diabetic constipation. Methods Sixty patients with diabetic constipation were recruited in this study, and they were assigned in a 1∶1 ratio to conventional intervention(control group)or moxibustion therapy plus auricular point sticking(study group)by a random number table for 14 days. Before and after intervention, the constipation symptoms and curative effect evaluation questionnaire scores, the Chinese version of Patient Assessment of Constipation-Quality of Life(PAC-QOL)scores,the levels of fasting plasma glucose(FPG),2-h postprandial blood glucose(2 hPG),and glycosylated hemoglobin(HbA1c)were compared between the two groups, and the clinical efficacy was assessed between the two groups. Results The total effective rate of the study group was obviously higher than that of the control group(96.67%[29/30]vs 63.33%[19/30],P<0.05).The questionnaire scores of constipation symptoms and curative effect evaluation in the both groups were significantly lower than those before treatment(P<0.05),with significant inter-group differences(P<0.05).The levels of FPG,2 hPG,and HbA1c in the both group were significantly lower than those before treatment(P<0.05),the decreases were more common in the study group compared to the control group(P<0.05).The dimension score and total score of PAC-QOL in the both group were significantly lower than those before treatment(P<0.05),which in the study group were significantly lower than those of the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion The combination of moxibustion therapy and auricular point sticking in treating diabetic constipation can effectively improve constipation symptoms,down-regulate the blood glucose level, and improve the quality of life.
