Effects of traditional Chinese medicine appropriate technology on limb function and activities of daily living in patients with post-stroke spastic hemiplegia
Objective To analyze the effects of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)appropriate technology on limb function recovery and activities of daily living(ADL)in patients with post-stroke spastic hemiplegia. Methods A total of 84 patients with post-stroke spastic hemiplegia who were treated in Department of Rehabilitation,Huangshan City People's Hospital between January 2022 and November 2023 were enrolled. They were divided into control group(n=42)and treatment group(n=42)using envelope blind method. All patients were managed by routine limb rehabilitation training, and those in treatment group were additionally given TCM appropriate technology including Chinese medicine ion introduction,bian-stone therapy, moving cupping therapy,Shujing Tongluo exercise.A 2-month treatment was performed in the both groups. The changes of muscle tension, limb function, activities of daily living and quality of life were compared between the two groups before and after treatment. Results After treatment, the Modified Ashworth Scale(MAS)scores for upper limb and lower extremity in groups were significantly decreased(P<0.05),which decreased notably in the treatment group compared with the control group(P<0.05).The scores of Fugl-Meyer Assessment(FMA)of upper extremity and lower extremity,Barthel index(BI),Stroke Specific Quality of Life Scale(SS-QOL)in groups were significantly increased(P<0.05),which were significantly higher in the treatment group than in the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion The TCM appropriate technology can improve limb muscle tone and enhance ADL in patients with post-stroke spastic hemiplegia.
