Clinical efficacy of soft tissue release for functional abdominal pain syndrome
Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of soft tissue release for functional abdominal pain syndrome(FAPS).Methods One hundred FAPS patients randomly assigned into the two groups, with 50 patients in each group. The control group received conventional acupuncture treatment for 2 to 3 courses, with a 3-day interval between each course(10 times for a course). The treatment group received soft tissue release, with mild cases and severe cases receiving 1 and 2 courses of treatment respectively(5 times for a course). The aim was to compare the Wong-Baker Facial Pain Expression Scale(WBFPES)score, abdominal pain duration. The curative effect was assessed. Results The overall effective rate in the treatment group was better than that in the control group(immediately after treatment:96.0%[48/50]vs 84.0%[42/50];on month 9 after treatment:96.0%[48/50]vs 82.0%[41/50],P<0.05).WBFPES scores immediately after treatment and on month 9 after treatment in the both groups were significantly decreased, the decrease in the treatment group was more common than the control group(P<0.05).The abdominal pain duration immediately after treatment and on month 9 after treatment in the both groups was significantly shorter(P<0.05),which was significantly shorter in the treatment group than in the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion Soft tissue release can effectively improve pain in FAPS patients.
