Effect of external application with compound Huangxiao Powder at Shenque(RN8)for prognosis and nutritional status in gastric cancer patients undergoing early enteral nutrition after surgery
Objective To investigate the effect of external application with compound Huangxiao Powder at Shenque(RN8)for early enteral nutrition(EEN)tolerance in gastric cancer(GC)patients after surgery.Methods Eighty GC patients undergoing EEN after surgery treated in our Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery,People's Hospital Affiliated to Hubei University of Medicine from July 2020 to June 2021 were enrolled.They were assigned into treatment group(n=40)and control group(n=40)according to the admission time.All patients were managed by routine enteral nutrition,and those in observation group additionally received compound Huangxiao Powder at Shenque(RN8)until the complete recovery of normal oral feeding.The first exhausting time of anus,first defecation time,bowel sounds recovery time,indwelling time of jejunum tube,enteral nutrition tolerance,nutritive indexes(prealbumin[PA],albumin,total protein[TP]),infection indexes(C-reactive protein[CRP],procalcitonin[PCT])were compared between groups.Results The first exhausting time of anus,first defecation time,bowel sounds recovery time,indwelling time of jejunum tube were significantly shorter in the treatment group than in the control group(P＜0.05).The incidence of enteral nutrition intolerance in the treatment group was significantly lower than that in the control group(10.00％[4/40]vs 30.00％[12/40],P＜0.05).After treatment,PA,albumin,TP in the both groups were significantly increased(P＜0.05),PA and albumin levels in the treatment group were higher than those in control group(P＜0.05).PCT and CRP levels in the both groups were significantly decreased(P＜0.05),the decrease in the treatment group was more common than the control group(P＜0.05).Conclusion For GC patients undergoing EEN after surgery,external application with compound Huangxiao Powder at Shenque(RN8)can significantly shorten the recovery time of gastrointestinal function,improve EEN intolerance and nutritional status,and control infection.
