Therapeutic effect of Guihuang Guchi Prescription as adjuvant therapy on pa-tients with chronic periodontitis and its influence on IL-1β and MMP-13 levels in gingival crevicular fluid
Objective To observe the therapeutic effect of Guihuang Guchi Prescription as adjuvant therapy on chronic periodontitis, and its influence on interleukin-1β(IL-1 β)and matrix metalloproteinase-13(MMP-13)levels in gingival crevicular fluid. Methods Ninety patients with chronic periodontitis(stomach excess-heat syndrome)were divided into conventional treatment group and adjuvant therapy group, with 45 cases in each group.Conventional treatment group was treated with ro-xithromycin and tinidazole on the basis of basic treatment, while adjuvant therapy group was treated with Guihuang Guchi Prescription on the basis of conventional treatment group. The two groups were compared in terms of clinical effects,TCM syndrome scores, laboratory indicators IL-1β and MMP-13 in gingival crevicular fluid, periodontal clinical indicators periodontal pocket depth(PD),sulcus bleeding index(SBI)and gingival index(GI),and bone metabolism indicators alkaline phosphatase(ALP),osteocalcin(OC)and procollagen type Ⅰ N-terminal propeptide(PINP)before and after treatment. Results After treatment, the total effective rate in adjuvant therapy group was higher than that in conventional treatment group(P<0.05).TCM syndrome scores,IL-1β and MMP-13 levels,PD,SBI,GI,and ALP and OC levels in both groups were lower than those before treatment, while PINP levels were higher;there were statistically significant differences in above-mentioned indicators between the two groups(P<0.05).Conclusion Guihuang Guchi Prescription as adjuvant therapy for patients with chronic per-iodontitis can achieve good clinical effects. It can lower the levels ofIL-1β and MMP-13,and improve periodontal health as well as bone metabolism indicators.
