Clinical research on hip-knee coherent electro-acupuncture in treating early knee osteoarthritis
Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of hip-knee coherent electro-acupuncture in treatment of early knee osteoarthritis(KOA).Methods Sixty patients with early KOA were randomly divided into observation group and control group, with 30 cases each.Control group received electroacupuncture at local acupoints on the knee joint, and observation group received acupuncture at the ipsilateral hip joint on the basis of control group, both for four weeks. The Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index(WOMAC)scores,30-second sit-up test(30s-CST),and serum inflammatory factor levels of interleukin-1 β(IL-1 β),IL-6,and tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α)of the two groups before and after treatment were calculated, and the WOMAC scores at 4 weeks,8 weeks, and 12 weeks after the end of treatment were calculated. Results After treatment, the total effective rate of observation group was higher than that of control group(P<0.05);the WOMAC scores and 30-CST frequency of both groups were significantly improved compared with before treatment(P<0.05),and the levels of serum inflammatory factors IL-1 β,IL-6,and TNF-α were significantly decreased(P<0.05).All indicators in observation group were better than those in control group(P<0.05).At 4 and 8 weeks after the end of treatment, there was no significant difference between the WOMAC score of the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusion Hip-knee coherent electro-acupuncture treatment for early KOA can effectively reduce the pain of KOA patients, relieve joint stiffness, improve dysfunction, improve the stability of the lower limbs, inhibit joint inflammatory reactions, and has good long-term effects in improving symptoms, especially in reducing pain.It is a safe and long-lasting treatment method.
