An investigation of"adjusting balance"in treatment of knee osteoarthritis by acupotomy following the meridian tendons
The incidence of knee osteoarthritis(KOA)is increasing globally each year, making it a major cause of pain and disability in middle-aged and elderly individuals. In traditional Chinese medicine,it falls under the categories of"muscle impediment"and"bone impediment".This disease is mostly caused by deficiency of liver and kidney, prolonged strain, external pathogenic factors, etc.,resulting in joint meridians blocked, blood stasis blocked,"where there is no free flow, there is pain;where there is no nourishment, the sinews and vessels lose their function",which is the syndrome of deficiency of ben and solid of biao.Acupotomology is the product of the integration of traditional and modern medicine[1-2].As a new discipline,it has the advantages of strong creativity and curative effect, convenient operation and so on.It is based on modern anatomy. In traditional Chinese medicine,KOA is classified as a"knee paralysis"due to the"imbalance"of the tendons, and the tendon theory is effective in treating the disease. Therefore, the combination of meridian theory and acupotomy therapy is the key to the acupotomy"adjusting balance"treatment of KOA,the treatment of other bone and joint diseases and this also has similarities and differences.
