Efficacy observation on acupuncture combined with bladder function training on neurogenic bladder urinary retention in the elderly
Objective To observe the effect of acupuncture combined with bladder function training on neurogenic bladder urinary retention(NBUR)in the elderly. Methods A total of 108 elderly patients with NBUR were randomly divided into control group and observation group, with 54 cases in each group.Control group was given bladder function training, while observation group was given acupuncture on the basis of control group. The total effective rate, frequency of urination, residual urine volume, average urine volume per session,Modified Barthel Index(MBI),TCM syndrome score, intravesical pressure, maximum bladder capacity, and urinary tract infection rate of the two groups, were compared. Results After treatment, the total effective rate of observation group was higher than that of control group(P<0.05);the number of urination and the average amount of urine in a single time in both groups were higher than those before treatment, which were higher in observation group than those control group, while the residual urine volume in both groups was lower, which was lower in observation group than control group(P<0.05);the MBI scores of both groups were higher than those before treatment, which were higher in observation group than control group(P<0.05);the TCM syndrome score in both groups were lower than those before treatment, which were lower in observation group than control group(P<0.05);the intravesical pressure and maximum bladder capacity of both groups were higher than those before treatment, which were higher in observation group than control group(P<0.05);the rate of urinary tract infection in observation group was lower than that in control group(P<0.05).Conclusion Acupuncture combined with bladder function training has a clear effect on the elderly NBUR,which can promote urination, improve urodynamics, reduce TCM syndrome scores, improve living ability, and reduce urinary tract infection.
