Influence of Intumescent System on Performance of Water-based Extra-thin Flame Retardant Coating Used on Steel Structure
This work presents the influence of the intumescent system on the performance of flame retardant coating. Results show that melamine-coated ammonium polyphosphate(MF-APP),dipentaerythritol(DPER),pentaerythritolphosphate(PEPA),melamine(MEL)have low water solubility.Four kinds of intumescent systems were compared through laboratory big panel burning test and water-resistance test.It showed that the water-resistance of flame retardant coating with MF-APP/DPER/MEL was superior to the other three intumescent systems. Its water resistance time was 42 h.And after 48 h water immersion, the weight loss of coating was only 5.22%.Thermal gravimetric analysis showed that the component of the coating remained the same as before, thus its flame retardant performance was almost unchanged.
