Study on Application of Antioxidant 1024 in Copper Embedded Polypropylene Pipe Fittings
Copper embedded polypropylene pipe fittings are widely used in the field of building water supply and drainage. However, the presence of copper can always accelerate the thermal oxygen aging of polypropylene materials. In this paper, antioxidant 1024 was introduced into polypropylene resin.Through the tests on mechanical properties,OIT,and Melt flow index, the results showed that polypropylene containing antioxidant 1024 had strong resistance to copper thermal oxygen aging. The addition of 0.3%antioxidant 1024 maintained good mechanical properties of polypropylene, with a strength of 21.6 MPa after aging, only a decrease of 14.6%;The OIT of the inner layer of the pipe fittings decreased slowly and remained at 13.7 minutes after 180 days of aging. The microscopic morphology study showed that antioxidant 1024 can form stable complexes on the contact surface between polypropylene and copper.Polypropylene copper embedded pipe fittings containing antioxidant 1024 have similar thermal oxygen aging performance to nickel plated brass pipe fittings, and should have good application prospects.
