Effect of Mica Sheet Content on Gas Barrier Characteristics of EPDM
EPDM/mica sheet composites were prepared by using melt blending technology,EPDM rubber(EPDM)as the matrix material, tetramethylthiuram disulfide(TMTD)as the vulcanizing agent, zinc oxide, stearic acid(SA)and sulfur as the compounding agent, and mica flakes as fillers.Infrared and electron microscope scanning analysis were carried out on mica sheets. The mechanical properties,IR,SEM,TG,water contact angle,cross-linking density, water absorption and gas barrier properties of EPDM/mica sheet composites were tested. The effect of mica flake content on the properties of the composites was tested. The results show that when the content of mica sheet is 15.33%(wt.),the water absorption rate of the composite material reaches the lowest, and the water absorption rate is only 0.18%after immersion in boiling water for 12h.The gas barrier performance achieved the best effect, and the air permeability coefficient was only 1.345×10-10 cm2/(Pa·s),which was 71.1%lower than that of the blank EPDM vulcanized rubber without doped mica sheet.EPDM/mica sheet composites have good mechanical properties, thermal stability and gas barrier properties.
