Research progress of polymerization process of high molecular weight polyacrylonitrile
Polyacrylonitrile is an important precursor material for preparing high-performance carbon fibers. The mechanical characteristics of the finished carbon fiber are significantly influenced by its molecular weight. However, the molecular weight of polyacrylonitrile will vary depending on the polymerization process used.In conjunction with its process and product characteristics, the preparation process of high molecular weight polyac-rylonitrile is analyzed based on the choice of comonomers and initiators for various polymerization techniques. It is evident that the suitable comonomer and initiator are required in order to prepare high molecular weight polyacrylo-nitrile.Mixed solvent precipitation polymerization is a promising technique for creating polyacrylonitrile precursors for carbon fibers.
