Study on synthesis and properties of 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol/isosorbide modified copolyesters
By using the direct esterification-melt polycondensation method, isosorbide(ISB)and 1,4-cyclo-hexanedimethanol(CHDM)as modified monomers were combined with terephthalic acid(PTA)and ethylene glycol(EG)to create CHDM/ISB modified polyethylene terephthalate(PET)copolyesters(PEICT),a type of copolyesters with both good mechanical properties and heat resistance.Fixing the alkyd ratio and the amount of ISB added allowed for the study of the effects of various ratios of CHDM and ISB on the properties of copolyesters.Fourier transform in-frared spectrometer, nuclear magnetic resonance analyzer, differential scanning calorimeter, and thermogravimet-ric analyzer, were used to examine the copolyester structure and properties. The results showed that ISB and CHDM were successfully introduced into the copolyester molecular chain. The copolyester's number-average molecular weight(Mn)ranged from 29000 to 30000 g/mol,while its polydispersity coefficient was roughly 1.99.When the amount of ISB added was constant, the glass transition temperature of the copolyester increased gradually as the amount of CHDM added increased, resulting in a slight decrease in thermal stability.Additionally, the addition of CHDM im-proved the impact strength while the tensile strength gradually declined.
