Influence of the composition of acrylonitrile copolymer on its glass transition temperature and dying properties
The glass transition temperature(Tg)of the polymer is a key factor affecting the performance of its fibers. In this paper,a series of acrylonitrile copolymers(PAN)with different molecular compositions were pre-pared by aqueous precipitation polymerization, and the relationship between composition of the copolymer and its Tg were studied. The results showed that with the increasing of second monomer methyl acrylate(MA)in the copoly-mer,Tg decreased obviously. When the MA content was 40%,Tg reached 53.7℃,which decreased to about 40%of conventional polyacrylonitrile(Tg was about 90℃).The incorporating with third monomer, sodium methacry-late sulfonate(MAS),had no significant effect on Tg.When MAS content was 2%,Tg was 67.7℃,and when MAS content was 5%,Tg was 67.9℃.When the conventional polyacrylonitrile and acrylonitrile terpolymer were dyed, the equilibrium dyeing rate(dyeing temperature was 70℃)increased from 43.5%to 99.9%.It can be seen that the Tg of acrylonitrile copolymer can be regulated by changing the proportion of the second mono-mer MA.The dyeing properties of acrylonitrile copolymers can be controlled by changing the ratio of the sec-ond monomer MA to the third monomer MAS.
