Energy conservation and environmental protection are highly stressed in automobile industry, which means that engine oils must also meet relevant requirements.Different specifications have been proposed by various organizations worldwide and are constantly revised based on the development in engine technology. The key revisions of specification GF-7,proposed by the International Lubricants Standardization and Approval Committee(ILSAC)and will be officially implemented in the first quarter of 2025,are discussed and analyzed.Compared to the GF-6 specification,GF-7 imposes stricter requirements on certain physicochemical performance indicators of engine oils,as well as higher standards for rubber compatibility, fuel economy,high-temperature oxidation resistance, and timing chain protection. The evaluation of low-speed pre-ignition(LSPI)for aged oil are also newly added. The update of ILSAC GF-7 specifications will bring new opportunities and challenges for the development of engine oil.(Charts0 Tables6 References5)
