Preparation and properties of halogen-free flame retardant masterbatch and its modified fiber
A halogen-free flame retardant masterbatch was prepared by melt extrusion using halogen-free flame retardants as a modifier and bright polyethylene terephthalate(PET)chips as matrix and was then blended with semi-dull PET chips and melt spun into flame retardant PET pre-oriented yarn(POY),which was textured into flame retardant PET draw textured yarn(DTY).The influence of processing technology on the preparation of flame retardant masterbatch was explored. The physical properties and thermal stability of flame retardant masterbatch were evaluated. And the effect of the addition of flame retardant masterbatch on the mechanical properties and flame retardance of the fibers were studied. The results showed that the optimal preparation conditions for flame retardant masterbatch were as follows:40%flame retardant by mass fraction, melt temperature of 265℃,screw speed of 200 r/min and pelletizer speed of 35 Hz;the flame retardant was uniformly dispersed in the PET matrix, and the addition of flame retardant did not affect the intrinsic viscosity and melting point of PET chips, but improved the thermal stability and char yield of PET;the mechanical properties of the obtained flame retardant PET POY were close to those of tradi-tional PET POY when the flame retardant masterbatch was added at a mass fraction of 6%-12%;and the obtained flame retard-ant PET DTY had excellent flame retardant performance with a limiting oxygen index of 31.8%when the flame retardant master-batch was added at a mass fraction of 10%.
