Production and application of aramid fiber and progress in patent applications
The progress in the production,application and patent application of aramid fiber was introduced.The global pro-duction capacities of p-aramid and m-aramid fibers were 107.7 kt/a and 69 kt/a,respectively,when the production capacities of p-aramid and m-aramid fibers were 20 kt/a and 20.9 kt/a,respectively,in China in 2023.Taihe New Materials Group Co.,Ltd.is currently the largest aramid fiber production enterprise in China.The consumption structure of aramid fiber is slightly dif-ferent in the international and domestic markets.The proportions of aramid fiber consumption were both great in the fields of safe-ty protection and automotive friction materials in the international market in 2023 while the consumption of aramid fiber was mainly concentrated in the fields of optical fiber reinforcement and safety protection in China market.The consumption propor-tions of m-aramid fiber were great in the fields of electrical insulation paper,safety protection fabrics and high-temperature filtra-tion materials in the international market,while m-aramid fiber is mainly used in the fields of relatively low-end high-temperature filtration materials field in China market.The downstream high-end fields such as honeycomb core materials and lithium battery separators are expected to become new demand growth points for aramid fiber.Multinational enterprises provide a large patent ap-plication volume in China and pay more attention to patent layout and protection.The technology fields corresponding to the high-est patent application volume related to aramid fiber involve production technology improvement,aramid paper,batteries,etc.It was pointed out that enterprises should pay attention to the technological innovation in unique application fields in order to proac-tively make patents layout and obtain earlier patent protection and greater market advantages while continuously promoting innova-tion in the conventional application field of aramid fiber.
