A Study of the Construction of Diaspora Community in Tropic of Orange from Spatial Theory Perspective
Tropic of Orange is the first novel by Japanese-American writer Karen Tei Yamashita focu-sing on the United States. The novel takes Los Angeles and Mexico as the background, and uses a hy-pertext catalog to connect a multi-racial,multi-voice and multi-event mesh space, associating seven unrelated ethnic characters into a community.Franco Moretti's spatial ideas of"binary opposition","the Third"and"literary map"are in line with the marginal space, boundary space and narrative space represented by ethnic minorities in the novel. In the context of globalization, pluralism and postmod-ern society, the relentless pursuit of the seven ethnic minority individuals for the diaspora community has led to the dissolution of the binary opposition between the"center"and the"margin",which has led to the acquisition of a new identity and sense of self-belonging.Thus,the construction of the dias-pora community composed of ethnic groups is realized, which also expresses the author's imagination and longing for the construction of a harmonious and inclusive community.
