Comprehensive Comparative Analysis of UPFC and VSC-HVDC
With the socio-economic development and reform of the power sector, flexible power transmission modes with excellent comprehensive performances are urgently required by the modern power system.Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC) and VSC-HVDC both have the capability to control the power flow and to stabilize the terminal voltage, which are two main directions of current power transmission development.Focusing on the characteristics of the grid development in China, this paper analyzes and compares UPFC and VSC-HVDC comprehensively from the perspectives of topological structure, flow control, impact of transmission distance, reliability of power supply, controller design, and economic indicators, providing reference to making better choices of equipment in the future situations.
