The Impact of the"Belt and Road"Initiative on the Development of the Tourism Economy of Cities Along the Route of China:Empirical Analysis Based on the Difference-in-Differences Model
Expanding and deepening tourism cooperation is a crucial aspect of the joint construction of the"Belt and Road"Initiative.The article,based on panel data from 271 prefecture-level cities in China from 2009 to 2020,constructs a difference-in-differences model,and empirically examines the impact of the"Belt and Road"Initiative on the development of tourism economy of cities along its route and the potential mechanism.According to the research findings,the"Belt and Road"Initiative plays a significant promoting role in the development of the tourism economy of cities along its route.This impact is more pronounced in eastern cities,large cities,and famous cities with rich historical and cultural heritage.Mechanism analysis indicates that the"Belt and Road"Initiative promotes the development of tourism economy of cities by perfecting digital information infrastructure,driving technological innovation,optimizing industrial structure and improving service supply level.The research conclusion can provide theoretical support and policy insights for China to promote high-quality tourism development through"Belt and Road"Initiative cooperation.
