The gamma-ray detectors(GRD)of GECAM satellite are designed using a 3-inch diameter lanthanum bromide crystal(LaBr3 crystal)as a sensitive material for gamma-ray detection, coupled to a silicon photomultiplier(SiPM)array for readout. The LaBr3 crystal used in the GECAM satellite was subjected to background energy spectrum testing and classified according to the doping type of the crystal. The crystal properties were tested using radioactive sources. In order to study the radiation damage of LaBr3 crystal,a 60Co radiation source was used to test the radiation damage performance of the crystal. The results show that the type of LaBr3 crystal can be divided into two types;single doped and double doped. The energy resolution of LaBr3 crystal of GECAM satellite is<18%@59.5 keV,which meets the design requirements. After a cumulative irradiation dose of 1.65 kGy and a long period of de excitation, the peak variation of 662 keV in LaBr3 crystal before and after the experiment was less than 15%,meeting the requirements for use under space environmental conditions(GECAM satellite in orbit for three years).
