To optimize the performance of high-repetition-rate free-electron lasers,a normal-conducting radio frequency cavity is introduced before the first-stage bunch compressor.By applying small energy modulations to the electron beam, precise control of bunch compression is achieved on a bunch-by-bunch basis.Using this normal-conducting RF cavity, longitudinal parameters such as bunch length and arrival time are rapidly controlled through adjustments of amplitude and phase, ensuring the quality of the bunches.Experimental results demonstrate that this design enables dynamic control of bunch length, providing valuable insights for the design and operation of future FEL facilities.
