A Hybrid Bridge-leg Topology with DC Fault Blocking Capability
The flexible DC transmission scheme of modular multilevel converters based on half-bridge sub-module is widely a-dopted,yet it lacks direct fault current blocking capability. The clamp double-capacitor sub-module topology, equipped with bidi-rectional switches, can block the fault current but entails high operation losses and investment costs.A design scheme integra-ting clamp double-capacitor sub-modules and half-bridge sub-modules within the modular multilevel converter arm topology is proposed. This scheme introduces the design structure and principles of the hybrid modular multilevel converter bridge arm to-pology,and compares it with fault current-blocking sub modules in terms of cost and loss. Finally, the rationality and effective-ness of the hybrid bridge arm design scheme are validated by constructing a model on the MATLAB simulation platform, and compared with the clamp double-capacitor sub-module topology.
