Comprehensive evaluation of the water quality of Hutuo River in Hebei Province from 2019 to 2022
The water quality of the Hutuo River within the boundaries of Hebei Province,China was taken as research object.Three monitoring sites were established for this purpose:Dingweiqiao Inter-section,the Tuishui Channel, and Xian County Hub.A comprehensive water quality monitoring pro-gram was conducted from 2019 to 2022,which included the assessment of various water quality pa-rameters such as pH value, dissolved oxygen(DO),petroleum hydrocarbons,chlorophyll-a,total nitrogen, and potassium permanganate index(KMnO4 index). The evaluation of the water quality was conducted in accordance with the standards for Class Ⅲ water quality as stipulated in the Surface Wa-ter Environmental Quality Standards(GB 3838-2002),as well as utilizing the Trophic Level Index(TLI),which is a metric designed to assess the overall trophic state of aquatic ecosystems. The results revealed that certain water quality indicators at the sampling sites were found to be substandard in comparison to the Class Ⅲ water quality criteria. The contaminants that exceeded the prescribed standards were,in descending order of exceedance:total nitrogen, potassium permanganate index, and petroleum hydrocarbons. The stratification of the trophic state of the water body,as indicated by the TLI,classified the region as being in a mesotrophic condition.Over the course of the four-year monitoring period, there was a consistent downward trend observed in the trophic state, suggesting a gradual decrease in the overall nutrient enrichment of the water body.
