Productive experiment of saltwater domestication and cultivation of red tilapia(Oreochromis mossambicus × O.niloticus)
In 2023,a seawater acclimation test was conducted to evaluate the feasibility of farming red tilapia(Oreochromis mossambicus×O.niloticus)in the coastal waters of Zhejiang Province.During an initial 36-day salinization and large fry cultivation period, the average body length of the fish in-creased from 2 cm to 4 cm,and body mass from 0.167 to 2.5 g/ind.,showing a doubling in body length and a 14-fold increase in body weight.Following the relocation and counts,30 168 large fry were obtained, with a salinization and cultivation survival rate of 97.95%.During the subsequent 154-day seawater rearing trial, these large fry grew to an average body length of 25.2 cm and a body mass of 455 g/ind.,achieving growth rates of 5.3 times in length and 181 times in weight. The daily growth averages were 1.38 mm and 2.94 g.The survival rate during rearing was 96.8%,resulting in a total yield of 13 287.2 kg and a feed conversion ratio of 0.98.These results indicated that red tila-pia,after salinization,is suitable for local seawater farming, exhibiting rapid growth, low disease in-cidence,high yield, and significant edible and ornamental value.
