A Gram-negative bacterium was isolated from diseased cultured Japanese flounder(Parali-chthys olivaceus)in Changli,Qinhuangdao. Its morphological characteristics, physiological and bio-chemical properties,as well as its 16 S rDNA sequence were analyzed, identifying it as Vibrio harveyi. The isolated strain underwent antibiotic susceptibility testing with 30 antibiotics and an antagonistic experiment with 11 probiotics. The results revealed that the isolated strain exhibited high sensitivity to 13 antibiotics, including minocycline,levofloxacin,cefotaxime,florfenicol,norfloxacin,ciproflox-acin,doxycycline and compound sulfadiazine among others;while showing varying degrees of resist-ance to 9 antibiotics such as clindamycin, penicillin and ampicillin. Two probiotics,Bacillus licheni-formis and B.subtilis, demonstrated antagonistic effects on the strain at certain concentrations.
