The Impact of low salinity stress on the proliferation of Brachionus plicatilis
To understand optimized conditions for rotifer cultivation, the effects of low salinity on the proliferation and egg-laying rate of the rotifer Brachionus plicatilis were investigated.Different sa-linity treatment groups(3‰,4‰,5‰,6‰)were set up under controlled water temperature and p H conditions, with daily feeding of Chlorella and monitoring of rotifer proliferation. The results showed that both the proliferation rate and egg-laying rate of the rotifers increased significantly with the in-crease in salinity, with the highest proliferation rate observed in the 6‰ salinity group. This indicates that while Brachionus plicatilis can survive at low salinities, its reproductive performance is better at higher salinities.
