Numerical calculation of the icebreaking resistance of an icebreaker in a marine simulator
To study the direct-route continuous icebreaking operation of an icebreaker in the level ice area, this pa-per simulates the continuous icebreaking process of the"Xuelong 2"research vessel in the level ice by using the nonlinear explicit finite element method, analyzes the characteristics of the collision force and energy changes of the hull.Next, the study uses the model pool test of the icebreaker,Terry Fox,to compare with the numerical calcula-tion results of the dimensionless ice resistance coefficient of the"Xuelong 2",thus verifying the reliability of the numerical calculation. The numerical calculation results are compared with the empirical formula proposed by Lindqvist and Jeong, which shows an error within 20%,further verifying the correctness of the numerical simulation demonstrated in this paper.Using the simplified wedge model of"Xuelong 2",this paper studies the response characteristics of a ship-ice collision at different hull speeds, different icebreaking angles and thicknesses of the lev-el ice, qualitatively analyzing the laws of collision force and energy loss of a ship during the ship-ice collision under different working conditions.Concurrently, the parameter sensitivity of the icebreaking resistance is studied by u-sing a simplified model wedge, which is beneficial in obtaining the law of the icebreaking resistance changing with multiple parameters, and the average values of the icebreaking resistance obtained under different working condi-tions are fitted into the icebreaking resistance formula by using the rectangular domain least squares curved surface.By establishing an offline database of the icebreaking resistance applicable to the real-time solution of the motion mathematics model and using the interpolation method to obtain the ice resistance in real time,a proper reference can be provided for calculating ice resistance in the motion mathematics model evaluating the motion of a navigation simulator running in an icy area.
