The effect of adding biochar to fertilizer on the physicochemical properties of soil and seedling growth in Picea asperata Mast.nurseries
To study the effect of adding biochar to fertilizer on the physical and chemical properties of soil and seedling growth in Picea asperata Mast.nurseries, the experiment was conducted under field conditions.Five treatments were set up,including no fertilizer application, single fertilizer application,fertilizer+6 kg/m2 biochar,fertilizer+12 kg/m2 biochar, and fertilizer+18 kg/m2 biochar,to determine soil physical and chemical properties and seedling growth related indicators. The experimental results showed that:(1)Adding biochar to chemical fertilizer can effectively increase the number of soil water stable aggregates>0.25 mm compared to applying chemical fertilizer alone, and the improvement effect gradually increases with the increase of the addition amount.(2)Compared with single application of chemical fertilizer, the effect of chemical fertilizer+6 kg/m2 biochar on improving soil organic matter, alkaline hydrolyzable nitrogen, available phosphorus, and available potassium content was not significant. The effect was significant when the addition amount was 12 kg/m2,but the enhancement effect was no longer significant when the addition amount reached 18 kg/m2 compared to 12 kg/m2.(3)Compared with single application of chemical fertilizer, the treatment with chemical fertilizer+6 kg/m2 biochar showed no significant effect except for a significant increase in potassium absorption on the leaves. The addition amount of 12 kg/m2 significantly increased the absorption of nutrients by various organs, but the enhancement effect was no longer significant when the addition amount reached 18 kg/m2 compared to 12 kg/m2.(4)Compared with single application of chemical fertilizer, the promotion effect of chemical fertilizer+6 kg/m2 biochar on seedling growth was not significant. When the addition amount was 12 kg/m2,it can significantly improve the growth of spruce seedlings in terms of plant height and stem diameter, and increase the dry matter content of various organs; But when the addition amount reached 18 kg/m2,the enhancement effect was no longer significant compared to 12 kg/m2.Comprehensive analysis showed that adding biochar to chemical fertilizers can effectively improve soil physicochemical properties and promote seedling growth. In this experiment, adding 12 kg/m2 of biochar to chemical fertilizers should be adapt.
