Allen Poe's"The Oval Portrait"and Oscar Wilde's"The Picture of Dorian Gray"both feature the portrait as the narrative motif.Meanwhile,both novels belong to Gothic aestheticism.Therefore,the article explores the advantages and patterns of using portrait elements in portraying Gothic style and aestheticism by analyzing and comparing their applications and artistic effects in the two novels.
