An Explanation of the Relationship Between"Rhymed Fu not Fu"and"No Fu in Tang Dynasty"
Chen Yizeng,a Yuan Dynasty scholar, once proposed that"rhymed Fu is not Fu",while Li Mengyang,a Ming Dynasty scholar, proposed that"Tang had no fu".Both criticized the creation of Tang poetry and even completely denied the achievements of Tang poetry creation.Tang Fu was influenced by the Bing Fu of the Six Dynasties and the imperial examination system, and the rhymed Fu and Bing Fu became representatives of Tang Fu.They pursued neat sentence structures, beautiful language, and harmonious sound and rhythm, losing the original meaning of Fu's"elaboration".Under the influence of the retro movement, the literati of the Yuan and Ming dynasties shifted their focus from rhyme to antiquity, and the aesthetic direction of Fu studies was towards Chu Ci and Han Fu.Ancient Fu received attention, while rhymed Fu was naturally rejected, leading to the emergence of the concepts of"Rhymed Fu Is not Fu"and"No Fu in Tang Dynasty".
