The Translational Qualities of Bing Xin's Rendition of Gitanjali Through the Lens of Eco-Translatology
Gitanjali,a landmark compilation of prose poems authored by the pre-eminent Indian literary figure,Rabindranath Tagore.His esteemed recognition in 1913 with the Nobel Prize for Literature,for this collection,rendered him the inaugural Asian writer to be feted with such a distinction in the global literary scene.Gitanjali has been translated into numerous versions,with versions by luminaries such as Bing Xin,Wu Yan,Bai Kaiyuan,and Lin Zhihao,among many others.Amongst these translations,Bing Xin's rendition is widely regarded as the most canonical and enduring.This study zeroes in on Bing Xin's translation efforts,scrutinizing her translation qualities through the lens of Eco-Translatology.Drawing upon the principles of this framework,the study quantitatively examines the linguistic,cultural,and communicative adaptations and selections made in Bing Xin's rendition of Gitanjali.By applying the core concept of"three-dimensionality"from Eco-Translatology,the objective is to evaluate the translation's fidelity and assess how effectively the original text's essence is carried through into the translated text.
