An Inquiry Into the Reasons for the Shift From Materialism to Idealism in Modern British Empirical Philosophy and Its Implications
Modern British empiricist philosophy and its basic principles were initiated and proposed by Francis Bacon, but empiricists from Bacon to Beckley and other empiricists gradually shifted the early materialist empiricism to idealism because of their insistence on implementing the basic principles of empiricism, which was already characterized by idealism, and because of the influence of the philosophical thought of the Scriptures. This paper explores the fundamental and immediate causes of this shift and draws several insights on this basis.
