Two Interpretation Modes of Marx's Transition Theory——A Case Study of Robert Brenner
Robert Brenner distinguished two modes of interpretation for Marx's theory of the transition from feudalism to capitalism:the first mode was the early"division of labor mode"centered on division of labor and productive forces, which originated from Smith and potentially contained non-historical tendencies;the second mode is the late stage"mode of production"centered on production relations, which starts from specific production relations and affirms the particularity of economic development under different production relations.Brenner believed that there was an essential difference between Marx's two transitional theories, and only the second model has pioneering and explanatory power, but this model has not been perfected by Marx.Brenner severed the relationship between politics and economy, productive forces and production relations, abstract and concrete in Marx's transitional theory, resulting in his failure to accurately grasp its continuity and consistency.
