Conceptual metaphor is a commonly used discourse strategy in the construction and dissemination of national image by the media.The article takes 275 reports on energy transition from China Daily,a mainstream English media outlet in China in 2022,as the corpus to analyze the conceptual metaphors employed in the corpus and the national image they self-sculpt.Research has found that there are various types of conceptual metaphors,mainly including journey metaphors,location metaphors,architectural metaphors,war metaphors,and color metaphors.These have shaped China's positive national image of being proactive,courageous,and responsible in promoting energy transformation.This study has certain reference significance for China's news media to self-shape the national image and mitigate the negative impact of other-shaped national image.
