Effects of berberine combined with letrozole on ovarian morphology and he-modynamics in overweight/obese patients with polycystic ovary syndrome
Objective To explore the impact of berberine combined with letrozole on ovarian morphology and hemodynamics in overweight/obese patients with polycystic ovary syndrome(P-COS).Methods Fifty overweight/obese PCOS patients who visited our hospital from January to November 2022 were randomly divided into control group and observation group, with 25 pa-tients in each group.Control group was treated with letrozole to induce ovulation, while the ob-servation group was treated with berberine in combination. Both groups of patients were treated continuously for three menstrual cycles.Ovarian morphology and hemodynamic indicators be-tween two groups of PCOS patients before and after treatment were compared.Followed up for 3 months after treatment, and the ovulation and menstrual status of two groups of patients were re-corded.Results Compared with before treatment, the ovarian volume and follicle diameter of the two groups of patients decreased and increased after treatment, however, there was no sig-nificant difference between the two groups(P>0.05);The number of follicles in two groups of patients decreased, and the observation group showed significantly lower values compared with the control group(P<0.001).Compared with before treatment, the average blood flow veloci-ty of ovarian arteries in both groups of patients increased after treatment, and the observation group was higher than the control group(P<0.001);After treatment, the ovarian artery pul-satility index and resistance index of both groups of patients decreased, and the values in the observation group were lower than those in the control group(P<0.001).During the follow-up period, the ovulation rate and regular menstrual cycle rate of both groups of patients were improved after treatment, but there was no significant difference between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusion Berberine combined with letrozole has a certain improvement effect on o-varian morphology and hemodynamics in overweight/obese PCOS patients, which can regulate menstruation and promote ovulation.
