Academic burnout among medical students in Heilongjiang province:preva-lence and associated factors
Objective To assess the prevalence and associated factors of academic burnout a-mong medical students,in order to provide a theoretical basis for interventions to prevent aca-demic burnout. Methods The cross-sectional survey was conducted in two medical schools in Heilongjiang province from September to December 2021,with a total of 1 789 medical students completed general information and Maslach Burnout Inventory.Potential categories of academic burnout were explored using latent profile analysis, and multi-categorical Logistic regression was used to analyze the associated factors. Results Academic burnout among medical students could be categorized as low(16.8%),medium(55.9%),and high academic burnout(27.3%).Univariate analysis showed that the place of origin, the pressure of study and life, the degree of interest in the professional knowledge, weekly exercise time, smoking, drinking, overall satisfaction with study, and sleep quality were related to academic burnout(P all<0.05).Multifactorial analysis showed that medical students with lower interest in the profes-sional knowledge, drinking, lower satisfaction with study, and poorer sleep quality were more likely to experience moderate to high level of academic burnout(P<0.001).Conclusion Most medical students suffer from moderate academic burnout, and a few severe academic burn-out.It is necessary for institutions to take relevant measures to relieve academic burnout when formulating training programs for medical students.
