Effect of endoscopic minimally invasive tympanoplasty on hearing recovery in patients with middle ear cholesteatoma
Objective To explore the effects of endoscopic minimally invasive tympanoplasty on hearing recovery and the air-bone gap in patients with middle ear cholesteatoma. Methods A total of 92 patients with middle ear cholesteatoma treated in our hospital from January 2018 to January 2022 were selected as research subjects. They were randomly divided into control group and observation group, with 46 patients in each group. The control group underwent mas-toidectomy with tympanoplasty, while the observation group received endoscopic minimally in-vasive tympanoplasty.Comparative analysis of perioperative metrics and treatment outcomes was conducted between the two groups.Changes in serum indicators(paraoxonase-1(PON-1),lip-id hydroperoxides(LOOH),and livin inhibitor of apoptosis protein(LIVIN)),air conduction, and bone conduction thresholds before and three months after surgery were also compared.Complications such as headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, cerebrospinal fluid otorrhea, and incision numbness were also compared. The Zurich chronic middle ear inventory(ZCMEI-21)in its Chinese version was used to assess the quality of life of patients before and after sur-gery in terms of ear symptoms, hearing conditions, psychosocial and social impact, and medi-cal resource utilization before and after surgery. The patients were followed up for 2 years, and the recurrence after surgery was compared between the two groups. Results The observation group showed lower perioperative and serum indicators compared with control group.Treatment outcomes, hearing levels, and quality of life in the observation group were improved compared with the control group, the incidence of complications was significantly reduced, and the differ-ence was statistically significant(P<0.05).The results of follow-up showed that there was no significant difference in recurrence between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusion Endo-scopic minimally invasive tympanoplasty contributes to hearing recovery in patients with middle ear cholesteatoma, improving clinical efficacy and quality of life.
