Geographical Distribution, Morphology and Phylogeny of Gekko Laurenti in China
According to reports,Gekko genus has 47 species around the world and 16 species in China which is the most diverse region of Gekko species. The Gekko species in China are distributed most in the tropical and subtropical regions in the south of Qinling mountains, fewer in northern regions of the temperate zone, where there are eleven Chinese endemic species, including G.liboensis、G.taibaiensis、G.wenxianensis、G.similignum and G.Kikuchii in a narrow distribution range. Now,the classification and phylogenetic relationships of Chinese gecko has been made based on partial mitochondrial genes and nuclear molecular markers. However, there is still some controversy concerning taxonomy and relationships among subspecies on genus Gecko.A broader sampling strategy and evidence from additional molecular markers are required to decisively resolve the taxonomy and phylogeny of Chinese gecko.
