Association between BHMT rs3733890,rs7356530 polymorphism and the risk of gestational diabetes mellitus
Aim:To investigate the association between betaine homocysteine S-methyltransferase(BHMT)gene rs3733890,rs7356530 polymorphism and the risk of gestational diabetes(GDM).Methods:A total of 80 GDM pregnant women of Han nationality, aged 21-40 years, with gestational weeks of 24 to 28 from Chu Hsien-I Memorial Hospital of Tianjin Medical University from December 2019 to April 2022 were recruited.GDM was diagnosed through OGTT test. The control group consisted of 60 heathy pregnant women matched with GDM group in nationality, age, gestational age and BMI before pregnancy. The peripheral blood samples were collected, and serum Hcy,folate, and VitB12 levels were detected by ELISA,and BHMT rs3733890 and rs7356530 polymorphism was detected by Sanger sequencing.Logistic regression was used to estimate the association between BHMT rs3733890,rs7356530 polymorphism and GDM.Results:The levels of ser-um Hcy and folate in the GDM group were higher than those in the control group(P<0.05).The frequency of BHMT rs3733890 A allele in the GDM group was higher than that in the control group, while the frequency of GA +AA genotype was higher than that in the control group(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in the distribution of alleles or gen-otypes of BHMT rs7356530 between the 2 groups(P>0.05).Logistic regression result showed that after adjusting for age,pre-pregnancy BMI,folate and VitB12,rs3733890 A allele was associated with increase risk of GDM,OR(95%CI)of 2.624(1.254-5.494).Conclusion:A allele of BHMT rs3733890 may be associated with increased risk of GDM.
