Association between serum uric acid and blood glucose in people with type 2 diabetes mellitus and prediabetes based on covariate balancing generalized propensity score
Aim:To investigate the association between serum uric acid(SUA)and blood glucose in people with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)and prediabetes. Methods:From January 2020 to December 2022,1 012 patients with new-onset T2DM,1 025 patients with prediabetes underwent a complete physical examination in a tertiary hospital of Zibo city were se-lected.The random forest algorithm was used to select key covariates related to blood glucose.Covariate balancing general-ized propensity score method was used to balance the key covariates. Finally, weighted linear regression model was used to obtain the effect values. Results:Triglycerides, age, glutamyl transpeptidase, aspartate aminotransferase aminase, creatinine, low density lipoprotein, total cholesterol, alkaline phosphatase, urea, and aspartate/glutamic aminotransferase were selected as the key covariates. In the T2DM population, and prediabetic population, the average value of the balanced cross-correla-tion coefficient between key covariates and SUA was 0.004 4 and 0.078 1.The weighted linear regression results showed that in the T2DM population,SUA(100 times)was negatively correlated with blood glucose, with β(95%CI)of-0.424(-0.601--0.247);in the prediabetic population, there was no significant correlation between them,β(95%CI)of 0.001(-0.020-0.021).Conclusion:There is a negative correlation between SUA and blood glucose in T2DM patients.
