Sediment Regulation Analysis of the Diversion and Sediment Discharge Scheme of UPPER MARSYANGDI"A"Hydropower Station in Nepal
UPPER MARSYANGDI"A"hydropower station is located on the river in central and western mountains of Nepal. As a run-of-river hydropower station, the sediment deposition and erosion is the essential question during the operation and management.Based on the reservoir inflow characteristics of UPPER MARSYANGDI"A"hydropower station, this article presents transforming the diversion tunnel into diversion and sand discharge tunnel,in the meanwhile, corresponding sediment regulation plans are provided. The analysis shows that the diversion and sediment discharge tunnel scheme could reduce the sediment of the reservoir inflow, lighten reservoir sedimentation, lower the sediment content of power generation flow, and alleviate the erosion of the hydraulic turbine without affecting normal power generation. The diversion and sediment discharge tunnel scheme could provide useful references for the engineering design and sediment regulation of other proposed or existing run-of-river hydropower station.
