Interleukin-1β(IL-1β)is a common pro-inflammatory factor in the brain that is released by microglia and neurons at the physiological level and maintained at a low expression level. In this stud-y,the effects of IL-1β gene knockout on the behavior of adult mice were investigated by using differ-ent behavioral paradigms. The results found that IL-1β gene knockout did not affect the basic motor ability of the mice, but significantly reduced the time and the frequency of the mice to enter the new arm of the Y maze and sniff new objects in the new object recognition test, and increased the immobil-ity time of the mice in the tail suspension and forced swimming tests. These results indicated that the knockout of IL-1βgene reduced the learning and memory ability of mice and induced anxiety-like and depression-like behaviors in mice. The study proved that IL-1β gene knockout would damage the basic cognitive behavior and emotional behavior of mice, and provided an important basis for subsequent re-search on the effect of normal expression of inflammatory factors on brain function under physiological conditions.
