On the Inheriting and Breakthrough of Hanshan Poems Translated by Gary Snyder:Indispensable Lofty Inspiration
The academic circle takes"lofty inspiration"as the general summary of monk poets'writing style and artistic characteristics.Since the translator Snyder and the writer Hanshan are both monk po-ets,these twenty-four Hanshan poems selected and translated by Snyder inevitably contain lofty inspi-ration,which are embodied in three aspects:theme,language and artistic conception.As a highly edu-cated intellectual and leader of the Beat Generation,however,Snyder also selectively carried out some creative treason according to his readers'identities and social backgrounds,which adds the spirit of time to the lofty inspiration.The lofty inspiration containing individual and time marks,in turn,subli-mating into a kind of living philosophy,which guides Snyder's writing and life.
