Adsorption of SO2 by Activated Carbon from Cotton Stalk and Walnut Shell
Biomass activated carbon was prepared with Xinjiang cotton stalk and walnut shell as raw materials and KOH as activator. The adsorption properties of cotton stalk and walnut shell biomass activated carbon for SO2 adsorption were compared under the same conditions. The results show that the carbonization temperature is 400℃,the carbonization time is 60 min,and the ratio of agent to material is 1∶1.The cotton stalk actirated carbon prepared at the activation temperature of 800℃and the activation time of 60 min had the best adsorption effect on SO2.The saturated adsorption capacity of cotton stalk activated carbon was 62.887 mg/g,and that of walnut shell biomass activated carbon was 22.050 mg/g.BET analysis of activated carbon showed that the specific surface area was 1217.2474 m2/g and the total pore volume was 0.6403 cm3/g.The amino groups and hydroxyl groups were detected by FT-IR analysis.XRD analysis showed that the surface of graphite crystal surface(002)and(100)structure;SEM analysis showed that the activated carbon from cotton stalk had more pores and uniform pore distribution than that from walnut shell.
