Review of Progress on the Physiological Effects of Micronutrients on Phytoplankton Physiology
Phytoplankton contribute significantly to global primary productivity, providing an energy basis for marine and freshwater aquatic ecosystems. The growth of phytoplankton is influenced by a series of biological and non-biological factors, such as nutrient concentrations, temperature, and predation. Therefore, phytoplankton significantly affect the realization of various functions in aquatic ecosystems.Although many studies at home and abroad have pointed out that besides nitrogen and phosphorus elements, different micronutrient affect the physiological processes of phytoplankton to varying degrees, there is still a lack of a systematic understanding of the effects of numerous micronutrients on different types of phytoplankton. This paper reviews the relevant research reports on phytoplankton and summarizes the impacts of different micronutrient on the growth and physiology of different phytoplankton, and provides a reference for comprehensively understanding the phytoplankton physiology and their response mechanisms to changes in the content of various elements in the environment.
