Discussion on the Sequence of Expansion Joint and Welding Construction for Tube-to-tubesheet Joints of Heat Exchanger
With the increasing use of expansion and welding in the design of heat exchanger tubes and sheet, the selection of construction process sequence for tube joints needs to be based on specific working conditions, whether welding before expansion or expansion before welding. However, when manufacturers formulate the construction process for pipe joints, there is no specific theoretical support. They tend to choose a fixed and unchanging expansion welding construction sequence for all heat exchangers based on experience, which leads to some heat exchangers experiencing pipe joint leakage during service. This paper analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of two construction sequences based on years of production experience. At the same time,it summarizes the impact of post welding on first expansion and post expansion on first welding, and identifies the applicable scenarios for the two construction sequences, providing a basis for formulating reasonable pipe joint construction processes.
