Application of Point Load Test in Geological Survey of Ultra-high side slope engineering of typical open-pit stope
The construction of a large ultra high slope open-pit stope at the Xiarihamu nickel-cobalt mine requires slope engineering geological survey work.Rock compressive strength is an important engineering geological parameter,it is crucial to quickly obtain the uniaxial compressive strength and other parameters of various rocks in the mountainous areas of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, especially for weathered or altered rocks that are difficult to carry out indoor compression tests. This time,in the field site, the Jinan Mining Rock HDH-1 Rock Point Load Instrument was used to carry out point load tests on various types of rocks in the mining area. The uniaxial compressive strength of various rocks and the anisotropy index of layered(strip)rocks were calculated using the conversion formula between point load strength and uniaxial compressive strength summarized by the predecessors. This point load test not only overcomes the complex, long cycle, and high cost factors of rock testing and processing in the Kunlun Mountains, but also is suitable for rocks in weathered layers and alteration zones that are difficult to carry out indoor compression tests. It is a quick and indirect method for measuring and estimating rock related strength parameters, and has a wide reference value for future engineering geological exploration work in western mountainous areas.
