Floating plate refers to a disk that covers on the storage medium. It can significantly reduce the liquid volatilization loss and lower the fire risk of the storage tank. The rising and falling velocity of the floating plate varies at different operating conditions, causing the incline of the floating plate. In this study, the dip angle of the floating plate at different rising and falling velocities were investigated using two storage tanks(volume 300 m3,internal diameter 6 500 mm)and a full contact type floating plate. It was found that the dip angles of the floating plate in the position parallel to the inlet/outlet pipe were relatively large while the dip angle in the position vertical to the inlet/outlet pipe were near to 0.The maximum dip angle occurred when the floating plate began to rise or fall.Besides,it was also found that the average and maximal dip angle of the floating plate were positively related to the rising and falling velocity of the floating plate.
